As he shares his struggles with making eye contact, he shows how it makes him feel and how he finds help and comfort from a friend at school to overcome his struggle. He quickly learns a new superpower—a tool to overcome the discomfort of direct eye contact—while helping others understand him better. This book is meant to be a shared experience for children and parents alike, helping to bridge the gap of misunderstanding and empower children who struggle in the same way.

A Heartwarming Tale with a Meaningful Message

I recently had the pleasure of reading "Ouch, Eye Contact" by Sharice Hanson, and it is a truly beautiful children's book that touches on an important and often overlooked topic. The story follows a young boy who struggles with making eye contact, a challenge that many children (and adults) can relate to. The boy's journey to find a method that works for him is both touching and inspiring.

What makes this book stand out is the gentle and compassionate way it addresses the boy's difficulty. Rather than focusing on the problem, Sharice Hanson offers a creative and effective solution: looking in between people's eyes. This approach not only helps the boy feel more comfortable but also allows him to show others that he is paying attention in his own unique way.

The illustrations are vibrant and engaging, perfectly complementing the heartfelt narrative. The language is accessible for young readers, making it an excellent choice for children who might be facing similar challenges. It also serves as a valuable resource for parents, educators, and caregivers to foster understanding and empathy.

"Ouch, Eye Contact" is more than just a children's book; it's a tool for promoting acceptance and encouraging kids to embrace their differences. It's a reminder that everyone has their own way of navigating the world, and that's okay. This book is a must-read for anyone looking to add a thoughtful and inclusive story to their collection.

I highly recommend "Ouch, Eye Contact" to anyone who wants to share a meaningful and uplifting story with the children in their lives. It's a book that will surely leave a lasting impact and spark important conversations.

Buy this Book! You won’t regret it!

This book is adorable and so, so good, and also made me cry! As someone who has struggled with making eye contact my whole life, I wish I would have had something like this to read when I was a kid. It also helped me understand my own son a little better, who has his own struggles. Saying the words, “I love you,” makes him feel REALLY uncomfortable, and I always took it personally and thought that he didn’t love me because he couldn’t say it. That would then make him feel sad because he does love me, he just can’t say it. It took me so long to understand that he shows love in different ways and that is totally fine! But it’s nice to have something like this as a reminder that we all have little quirks and things that we struggle with that make us different and it’s OKAY to be different!

A must read!

I read this with my son who has similar characteristics of the boy in the book. I loved how it focused on all the things the boy loved and it expressed emotions and thoughts it such a unique and wonderful way. I am so excited I purchased this and so grateful I get to share it with my son and others!
